Throughout his life, Goku did whatever it took in order to protect the innocent from harm. It did not matter what lengths he had to go to, or how much pain he endured. All that mattered was that those he loved and cared for and the innocent were safe. I thought I completely understood his heroic efforts until I watched the last episode of Dragon Ball GT. The last episode where he becomes one with Shenron to watch over the Earth is what truly made me understand what a true hero is. It is not someone who is there when it’s convenient for them. It is not someone who backs down from facing his or her fears. A true hero is someone who is the light in the darkness, the spark that ignites the fire. They are someone who makes everyone else a better person. A true hero’s most heroic acts are not always on the battlefield. A true hero faces their fate with a grin on their face and a heart that is pure, ready to face whatever new opportunity may await them on their journey.
